Fire Procedure Policy

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us

Fire Policy

Following the fire procedure in the event of a fire is crucial for ensuring the safety of everyone involved. It provides clear, organised steps to quickly and efficiently evacuate the building, reducing the risk of injury or loss of life. Adhering to the fire procedure helps prevent panic, ensures that emergency services are alerted promptly, and allows for an orderly exit, ensuring that all occupants are accounted for. In short, it’s a vital part of keeping everyone safe during a potentially dangerous situation.

Prior to all classes the register must be taken, accounting for the students and any visitors or parents observing.

In the Unlikely Event of a Fire

Follow these basic steps when evacuating the Town Hall when there is a (potential) fire:

  • Stay calm and alert others: Remain calm, keep the children calm and immediately alert others by activating the fire alarm or verbally notifying people nearby.
  • Evacuate the building: Follow the designated evacuation routes and head towards the nearest exit
  • Leave all belongings: Do not be worried about bags, clothing and shoes, the only concern is safety. If you remember to take the register with you, this will be helpful.
  • Assist others: Help those who may need assistance, such as the youngest children, physically challenged or elderly visitors, to evacuate safely.
  • Close doors behind you: If possible, close doors as you leave to help contain the fire and prevent the spread of smoke.
  • Proceed to the Assembly Points: Once outside, move to the pre-determined assembly points (shown in the image below) and stay there until further instructions are given. There must be one teacher/assistant in each location.
  • Do not re-enter the building: Do not go back into the building until emergency services have declared it safe to do so.
  • Administer first aid: Once outside, consider assisting anyone that may need medical
  • Check the register: Locate and account for all children, parents and visitors, listed on the register.
  • Contact parents: to inform them about the situation calmly, providing necessary details without causing unnecessary alarm.
  • Report missing persons: If someone is unaccounted for, inform emergency personnel immediately.

These steps ensure a safe and orderly evacuation, minimising risk during a fire.
